The New York State Department of Health has approved a saliva diagnostic test to quickly identify positive COVID cases on SUNY campuses.
The new technology will be used in conjunction with pooled surveillance testing of 10-25 students at a time.
This rapid screening can analyze more than 15,000 samples per day at SUNY Upstate in Syracuse-- in collaboration with Quadrant Biosciences, a company supported by the state with tax incentives.
The SUNY Chancellor says the testing is cost-effective and less invasive.
SUNY Upstate currently has the only laboratory that can perform this test.
