City Leaders Support Residency Requirement Proposal for New RPD Officers

City leaders are throwing their support behind legislation to change the residency requirement for new Rochester Police officers.

Mayor Lovely Warren says it is important to have police officers live in the community that they serve.

Rochester City Council President Loretta Scott says the council is serious about reform and re-imagining policing in the community.

Currently 47 police officers live in the city. Mayor Warren says this proposal would affect newly-hired officers, not veteran officers.

Similar proposals have been introduced in Syracuse and Buffalo.
