The U.S. Justice Department is investigating COVID-19-related deaths in nursing homes in New York and three other states.
Letters were sent to governors in New York, New Jersey, Michigan, and Pennsylvania requesting COVID-19 data.
In the New York case, the issues stem from a controversial state health department directive in March, which prohibited a nursing home from denying re-admission or admission to a nursing home based on a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of the coronavirus.
That directive was later reversed.
