The deadline for child sex abuse survivors to file civil lawsuits against the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester has passed...and more than 500 people have filed those claims against the diocese under New York's Child Victims Act.
The cutoff was last week because the diocese filed for bankruptcy protection. 13 WHAM says it's learned there were 503 cases filed, which is more than double what some attorneys expected.
These are in addition to some 30 cases brought by people which have already been settled through a mediator.
