City Schools Delay in-person Classes for 10 Weeks

A statement late this afternoon from the Rochester City School District and the Rochester Teachers Association says all students in all grades will be learning online for at least the first ten weeks of the coming school year.

That's a change in plans for the City Schools, which had planned a hybrid system in which most students would spend two days of the week being taught in person, and the rest of the week taking virtual classes via the internet.

The joint statement quotes RTA President Adam Urbanski -- saying teachers want to return to in-school classes, but only when it's safe to do so. Urbanski says the union is happy the district is heeding the wishes of parents and teachers.

Superintendent Lesli Myers-Small said "The health and well-being of our students, teachers, staff, and their families is our top priority, and we are committed to doing our part to help Rochester get back on track."
