Braddock Bay Project Declared Finished

Federal, state and Town of Greece officials have declared the Braddock Bay project complete. The 10-million-dollar, two-year project restored the bay for boat navigation and also as a wildlife habitat.

Town Planner Scott Copely says the bay had gradually silted in so much that boaters couldn't get out to Lake Ontario. The bay was dredged, and the material dug up was used to rebuild a barrier beach at the bay mouth that keeps waves from filling it in again and also protects the harbor for boaters. That also restored the wetlands for more than 30 species of birds.

With the bay now clear for navigation. Copely says the town-owned Westpoint Marina has gone from 26 slips rented to more than 250, and he says the other marinas around Braddock Bay have seen similar growth. He says the project has been good both for the environment and for business.
