Former Assembly Speaker Sentenced to Prison

Former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver is being sentenced to six and a half years in prison. The once powerful New York State lawmaker was resentenced today in connection with a four-million-dollar bribery scheme. Silver was convicted a few years ago, but the verdict was overturned. He then was put on trial again in 2018 where he was found guilty. Silver's lawyers were pushing for home confinement and community service because of his older age and the coronavirus pandemic.
