GOP Legislators Call for Demonstration Safety Plan

Republicans in the Monroe County Legislature are calling for a safety plan for a demonstration on Sunday...when Black Lives Matter protesters plan to shut down I-490 downtown. The lawmakers point to a demonstration last month in Hilton when one of the protesters was hit by a car.

The Sunday afternoon protest calls for demonstrators to gather at Martin Luther King Park downtown and march to the nearby expressway, where they hope to sit down on the driving lanes.

Republican Majority Legislator Karla Boyce says County Executive Adam Bello and Sheriff Todd Baxter should say what they plan to do.

Sheriff Baxter says this is the Rochester Police Department's jurisdiction, but his deputies are available to help if needed. He says he's disappointed the lawmakers didn't call him before going public. He says he's given them his cell number.
