The long dry spell has pushed parts of New York State into a drought.
According to the National Drought Mitigation Center, most of St. Lawrence County is experiencing a severe drought. Several other counties in northern and eastern New York are under a moderate drought.
The rest of the state -- including our area -- is said to be "abnormally dry". Lawns are getting brown and plants are wilting. And the dry conditions mean there is a greater risk of fire.
