Veteran Assemblyman David Gantt Dies

Long-time New York Assemblyman David Gantt has died at the age of 78. His death was announced by the State Assembly's Democratic Majority Office.

Gantt served the 137th Assembly District in Rochester for more than 30 years, first elected in 1983. He announced earlier this year that he would not be seeking another term and had been in failing health.

Gantt headed the Assembly's Transportation Committee for decades, and was a political patron to numerous elected officials including Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren.
