Monroe Co. Board of Elections to Begin Counting Absentee Ballots

The Monroe County Board of Elections will begin counting absentee ballots today from the recent primaries and special election.

Board of Elections officials say official results and the certification of the election can't occur until every ballot is counted and the process of counting ballots is a manual one.

More ballots were returned by mail than were cast in the machines on, or before, Primary Day. That's left several races undecided.

Officials expect all the ballots to be counted sometime in the second week of July.

One board employee has a conflict of interest and won't take part in the counting. That worker is a campaign treasurer for a state assembly candidate.
