Eleven people were forced out of their apartments early this morning when fire struck their building on Portland Avenue near Norton Street. None of them were injured. The Rochester Fire Department says the flames were confined to one of the 11 units, with the others suffering mainly smoke damage. One firefighter was taken to the hospital with a minor injury.
The Red Cross is helping the displaced residents, and the Fire Investigation Unit is looking into what caused the blaze.
