Comptroller Says City Schools Have Fixed Most Budgeting Problems

An audit from the State Comptroller's Office says the Rochester City School District has cleaned up most of the problems that got it into serious budget trouble this year, but there are still some cautions.

The comptroller says the RCSD has gotten much more accurate in mapping out its budget projections. In its latest budget they say the projections are mostly on point, which is worth pointing out given the COVID-19 pandemic. But the comptroller's staff found charter school appropriations appeared to be under budgeted by about $1.5 million, and the budget appears to have a built-in imbalance. That's because it relies on using $10 million dollars in city funds intended for fixing up school buildings to cover its shortfall in operating funds.

The entire budget totals more than $927 million.
