Preliminary numbers show the number of private sector jobs in New York State decreased in April by more than 1.7 million or more than 21 percent.
It was the state’s largest monthly employment drop on record. Nearly one-thirds of the jobs lost were in leisure and hospitality.
The state unemployment rate rose from 4.1% to 14.5%.
The year-over-year private sector job loss for April in the Rochester metro area was 21%, or 98,000.
