The New York State Education Department has appointed Shelly Jallow to monitor financial practices and educational programs in the Rochester City School District.
The department says Jallow has decades of experience in school district turnaround and leadership operations.
Her job will be to provide oversight, guidance and technical assistance to the district and the school board. She will be, in effect, a non-voting member of the board.
And she has a connection to Rochester. She earned her doctorate at Saint John Fisher College.
her appointment was a requirement of the state bailout that helped the district close part of its budget shortfall.
