State Appoints RCSD Monitor

The New York State Education Department has announced the appointment of Dr. Shelly Jallow as the State Monitor for the Rochester City School District. The monitor will oversee both financial practices and educational programs in the Rochester school system...and her appointment was a requirement of the state bailout that helped the district close part of its budget shortfall.

Interim State Education Commissioner Shannon Tahoe says Dr. Jallow has decades of experience in school district turnaround and leadership operations. Her job will be to provide oversight, guidance and technical assistance to the district, the school board and the superintendent. Dr. Jallow will be, in effect, a non-voting member of the City School Board.

And Dr. Jallow has a connection to Rochester. She earned her doctorate in education at Saint John Fisher College.
