Jet Ski Crash Ends In Good Samaritan Fatality

Sheriff's deputies are trying to determine whether a Canandaigua man had the proper papers to operate the jet ski that crashed Saturday on a private pond in Hopewell.

A bystander who tried to help the man and an 8-year-old boy died after he dove into the water.

Sheriff Kevin Henderson says Christopher Barber had a medical event when he entered the water and died at the hospital.

The operator of the jet ski -- Raymond Foster -- and the boy were not wearing life vests. Henderson says criminal charges are possible.

The boy remains hospitalized.
