Thruway Rest Stops to be Rebuilt

The 250 million drivers who travel the New York State Thruway every year will see upgraded service centers across the state, after a vote by the Thruway Authority Board of Directors. They voted for a $450 million plan to renovate all 27 of the service areas, which were last upgraded 30 years ago. They were originally built in the 1950s.

Most of the buildings will be reconfigured with additional entrances. They'll have New York farm markets, outdoor seating, pet relief areas, call ahead food ordering, kiosks and drive-thru service at most locations.

Half the rest stops will be rebuilt starting next year, and half will start in 2023.
