Rochester School Superintendent Terry Dade is leaving for a new job.
The Cornwall Central School District in Cornwall-on-Hudson New York announced Thursday night via its web page that Dade has been named their new superintendent. Cornwall Central is a district near the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, north of New York City and about 4 1/2 hours drive southeast of Rochester. The district says Dade will begin work there in July.
The Rochester School Board held its regular meeting Thursday night and spent considerable time meeting in executive session over a "personnel issue." It was not clear if they were discussing Terry Dade's departure.
Dade confirmed Wednesday that he was looking to get out of his three year contract with the Rochester City School District after just ten months.
He said the City School Board was resisting his efforts to close the $85 million gap in next year's school budget because of the cuts that will be required to teaching staff and cherished programs.
The deficit was caused, in part, by large overspending by Dade's predecessors, and was discovered about three months after he began work in Rochester last year.
