Governor Says New York Getting Critically-Needed Ventilators From China

Governor Andrew Cuomo says New York is within about a week of the peak coronavirus infection. He says he's conference calling with all the state's hospitals today to coordinate the deployment of ventilators and other vital equipment with the spread of the infection.

Cuomo says there are now nearly 10,500 cases of COVID-19 in the state, more than 4,000 patients are in intensive care. More than 3,500 people have died and 10,000 people have gotten well.

Cuomo says New York is getting a thousand critically-needed ventilators from China, arriving today at Kennedy Airport. And he says 140 ventilators are being sent by the State of Oregon. Cuomo says he thanks the people of Oregon and will return the ventilators with interest when Oregon hits their infection peak sometime in May. The governor hopes to get about 500 ventilators for hard-pressed New York City hospitals from Upstate hospitals that haven't hit their peak rates of infection yet.
