The University of Rochester Medical Center is participating in a clinical trial of a possible treatment for COVID-19.
Adults who are hospitalized at Strong with the virus will be given the antiviral drug remdesivir.
The drug has been previously tested in humans with the Ebola virus and has shown promise in animal models for treating MERS and SARS, which are caused by other coronaviruses.
It is believed that the drug blocks an enzyme that is required for viral replication.
