Unemployment Website Boosts Server Capacity To Prevent Crashes

The state Labor Department says it has added server capacity to process the many new claims for unemployment benefits.

The website started crashing last week, as roughly a half million people tried to file on line each day. Many others could not get help on the phone.

The state is now asking applicants to call on a day designated by the first letter of their last name: A-F on Monday, G-N on Tuesday and O-Z on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday are reserved for anyone who missed their day or couldn’t get through.

Officials emphasize that despite any filing delays, full benefits will be paid dating back to the end of employment.
