The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning until 5 p.m.
Residents of Orleans, Monroe and Genesee counties could see winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour, with gusts to 60.
Damaging winds will blow down some trees and power lines. Scattered power outages are expected, and travel will difficult, especially for trucks.
Livingston, Ontario and Wayne counties are under a wind advisory and could see winds gusts up to 50.
The area utilities, RG&E, NYSEG and National Grid say they have been readying crews and equipment.
