Cayuga Nation Buildings Demolished

Seneca County has issued permits to the Cayuga Nation to finish what it started this past weekend....demolishing buildings.

The demolition started Sunday morning on Route 89. Its all a part of an ongoing dispute between two fractions of the Nation. The federal representative for the Cayuga Nation, Clint Halftown, said the property was wrongly seized in 2014 and the demolition eliminated public safety issues.

But the Traditional Nation does not recognize Halftowns leadership. The County Code Enforcement Department issued "Stop Work Order" on Monday until all permit requirements were met. That has now happened and the demolition will be closely monitored to ensure compliance with the terms of the issued permits.
