Democrats Object To Process Of Choosing New Elections Commissioner

Some Democrats in Monroe County are objecting to changes the way the party chooses an elections commissioner.

In the past, members of the party committee met at a convention to elect a commissioner.

But to fill the current vacancy, interested candidates are being asked to submit applications to a screening committee, and the Democratic Executive Committee will choose the new commissioner.

County Democratic Chair Brittaney Wells says the party needs a new commissioner in place quickly to prepare for the presidential primary in April.

Applications are being taken online through Friday.
