Livingston County Sheriff Tom Dougherty believes skeletal remains found in the woods near Geneseo are those of David Morgan.
He's the ex-convict who pointed a gun at an officer during a traffic stop and ran into the woods near there in July 2018.
Dougherty bases that belief on items found near the remains.
Hunters found the remains yesterday off Route 20A.
Morgan's girlfriend told authorities he fled north with her after a drug raid at his home in North Carolina.
She is serving a three-year sentence for coordinating with Morgan to threaten the officer.
