Greece Man Facing Charges for Threatening to Kill Members of Congress

A man from Greece is facing federal charges for allegedly threatening to kill Senator Chuck Schumer and Congressman Adam Schiff.

Federal prosecutors say earlier this year both Schumer and Schiff received threatening voicemails that contained death threats.

The threats were reported to the United States Capitol Police who traced the phone number to Salvatore Lippa II.

Authorities say Lippa was questioned and admitted to making the phone calls because he was upset about the impeachment proceedings.

He was arrested and charged with threatening to assault and murder a federal official on account of the performance of their official duties, and interstate communication of a threat.

The charges carry a maximum of ten years in prison if convicted.
