Rochester City School Superintendent Terry Dade told state lawmakers today that without more aid, Rochester schools could have to lay off up to 800 people by the end of the current school year.
That would be about 13 percent of the district's workforce of 6,000.
The district has already laid off more than 100 people as it seeks to close a budget gap caused by overspending before Dade became superintendent. That deficit is expected to hit $55 to $60 million in the NEXT school year. The district is seeking $35 million in additional state help to help close the gap.
