Monroe County Sheriff's Office Investigating Counterfeit Money Scheme

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a counterfeit money scheme.

The Sheriff’s Office says Hilton Johns of Rochester is accused of producing counterfeit $50 bills that have been circulating around the county between October and November last year. Johns is charged with four counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument. The trouble is, according to Investigator Eric Mezzoprete, the sheriff's office doesn't know where Johns is.

Johns was arraigned on the charges and released under NY's new bail reform law.... and was arrested again last month by Brighton Police, and again released.
