Tyquan Rivera Released Under New Bail Laws

A drug suspect with a violent past, Tyquan Rivera, has been released without bail, according to a ruling from Judge Sam Valleriani.

Rivera was arrested for selling fentanyl to an undercover officer in Rochester. He had recently gotten out of prison after serving the maximum amount of time for shooting a Rochester police officer when he was just 14. He's now 25 and charged with two counts of felony drug sales. But Defense Attorney Jim Napier says the judge followed the new bail laws that took effect yesterday in releasing him. Prosecutor Matt Schwarz said the law ties prosecutors' hands and the judge had no choice.

At a hearing today, the court ordered conditions for Rivera's pre-trial release including that he maintain contact with a pre-trial services agency, refrain from possessing a firearm, and submit to electronic in-home monitoring.

Prosecutors say new charges are expected against Tyquan Rivera from a grand jury.
