Cuomo Proposing NYS High Speed Rail

Governor Cuomo wants in the new year to make a new push for high-speed rail for New York.

He wants to convene a blue-ribbon panel of engineers to reexamine past high-speed rail plans, rethink the assumptions behind them, and recommend a new plan for a faster, greener, high-speed rail in New York.

Cuomo says it's unacceptable that past proposals have estimated construction could take decades and be unaffordable.

Cuomo notes most of the State's population lives close to the Empire Corridor, which connects Buffalo, Albany and New York City. But existing trains average only 51 miles per hour.
