It appears unlikely there will be any agreement between the Rochester City School District and the teachers union before the school board votes on teacher layoffs tomorrow night.
School Superintendent Terry Dade says he met with union leaders to discuss potential contract concessions that could reduce the number of layoffs, but it's unlikely the union will be able to get them finalized by the board meeting.
The school board must vote on whether or not to lay off more than 150 teachers to help balance a growing overspending problem.
Dade says the RTA is surveying its members regarding a list of proposed concessions and tabulating the results...and the union's leadership team will meet with its representative assembly about them. Dade says while he doesn't think that can be done in time, he remains open to discussions as often as necessary between now and Thursday.
