Dade Dubious Teacher Concessions Can Be Approved in Time

It appears unlikely there will be any agreement between the Rochester City School District and the Rochester Teachers Association before a vote on teacher layoffs Thursday night.

A statement this afternoon (Tue) from Rochester School Superintendent Terry Dade says he met with the RTA leadership team to discuss potential contract concessions that could reduce the number of layoffs, but it's unlikely the union will be able to get them finalizxed by the board meeting on Thursday.

Dade says the RTA is surveying its members regarding a list of proposed concessions and tabulating the results...and the union's leadership team will meet with its representative assembly about them. Dade says while he doesn't think that can be done in time, he remains open to discussions as often as necessary between now and Thursday.

The school board must vote on whether or not to lay off more than 150 teachers to help balance a growing overspending problem.
