Pink slips went out today to employees in the Rochester City School District affected by the superintendent's plans to close the budget shortfall....a shortfall Superintendent Terry Dade says will balloon to $65 million by the end of this school year if he doesn't act now.
Dade says he's truly sorry for the 152 layoff notices that went out to teachers today... and he says they're shouldering the consequences for a problem they didn't cause. He says it's not something he could have imagined when he came on the job in July.
The Rochester school board got its first formal look at the plans to cut more than 150 teaching positions this week. The board will vote on the plan December 19, with the staff cuts taking effect in January.
Those against the cuts protested outside the City School District headquarters last night.
