Flu Considered Prevalent In New York

The flu is now considered prevalent in New York State.

State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker says flu activity is now widespread, with laboratory-confirmed cases in 42 counties and nearly 700 flu related hospitalizations across the state.

He says healthcare workers who have not gotten their flu shot, must now wear surgical masks when they are around patients.

In Monroe County there has already been one flu-associated pediatric death. Health officials say it is never too late to get a flu shot.
