Holiday Highway Crackdown on Through Sunday

Governor Cuomo's office says state and local law enforcement will take part in a special effort to weed out unsafe driving behavior during the Thanksgiving Weekend.

The special traffic enforcement period runs from Wednesday through Sunday, December 1st. Regular patrols will be supplemented by additional sobriety checkpoints and unmarked cars looking for drivers using handheld cellphones or other devices.

Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel times of the year. Last Thanksgiving weekend, troopers alone arrested 215 drunken drivers, issued more than 58-hundred speeding tickets and wrote 774 tickets for distracted driving
