Congresswoman Ilhan Omar is calling for compassion for a Southern Tier man who threatened to kill her. The Democrat from Minnesota wrote a letter to the judge deciding the case of Patrick Carlineo, and said, "the answer to hate is not more hate, it is compassion."
Carlineo has pleaded guilty to threatening to assault and murder Omar, and could get ten years in prison. The Addison mancalled her office last March, and said the Muslim congresswoman was a terrorist and that somebody ought to shoot her.
Omar on Tuesday sent a letter to the judge calling for "restorative" justice, and suggested that community integration and social services would serve Carlineo better than a long prison sentence.
