1960s Rochester Bishop Beatification Ceremony Set

A ceremony is set for next month to beatify the Catholic bishop who became a national television figure in the 1950s and served three years as Bishop of Rochester in the 1960s.

The Venerable Fulton Sheen will be beatified in Peoria, Illinois, December 21. He was ordained as a priest there 100 years ago.

The miracle attributed to Sheen involves the recovery of a boy who appeared to be stillborn 9 years ago.

The boy's mother prayed to Sheen to heal him, and the boy revived.

Pope Francis on July 5 declared a new saint and approved 8 decrees, taking a woman and 7 men a step closer to sainthood. Among them, a miracle has been recognized through the intercession of Archbishop Fulton Sheen.
