State Widens Flooding Lawsuit Against IJC

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Attorney General Letitia James have joined in the lawsuit filed by the State DEC against the International Joint Commission (the joint U.S. and Canadian body that regulates the Great Lakes).

New York is suing the IJC for failing to implement its flood protocol under Plan 2014 which regulates the Great Lakes. The state says the commission's failure is responsible for the floods which hit the Lake Ontario shoreline in 2017 and earlier this year. They say those floods caused substantial and avoidable damages to property.

The suit expands on the original suit by including all damaged state property, amounting to more than $50 million.
