Risky Products Found by Consumer Group

Rochester area consumer advocate Judy Braiman is out with her annual list of consumer products that pose risks for children and adults.

Her organization, the Empire State Consumer Project, found toxic chemicals in tests of paper and plastic party plates and paper straws. Ongoing tests of juices still found lead in some brands. The group also found many other unsafe and recalled toys and nursery products still for sale for Amazon.

Braiman says among them are balloons being sold as toys for for children, even though children below the age of eight are no longer supposed to play with them without adult supervision. A number of children have died over recent years from swallowing or suffocating on balloons.
