Rochester School Superintendent Terry Dade is cutting staff by up to five percent to help solve the $30 million overspending problem in the city schools.
Dade says the five percent staff reduction would save nearly $10 million.
Starting in January, the district will eliminate 168 teaching positions and 18 administrative jobs.
Other steps would include a hiring freeze and reviewing the district's professional service contracts.
Dade also says the district has made it harder to bring in substitute teachers. He says that's where much of the overspending occurred.
