Don Cherry Fired After Immigrant Patriotism Comments

One of the legendary Rochester Amerks players of the 1960s, who went on to coach in the NHL, has been fired as a TV hockey commentator for his comments about immigrants.

Don Cherry referred to immigrants as "you people" during a weekend broadcast in Canada and said immigrants were not wearing poppies to honor Canada's fallen soldiers.

His employer, Sportsnet, said Cherry made "divisive remarks that do not represent our values or what we stand for."

Cherry is 85 and has been on the air in Canada for nearly four decades.
