Proposal Introduced For Inmate Voting Rights

There is a proposal in the state legislature to grant voting rights to prison inmates.

The bill is being introduced by Democratic state Senator Kevin Parker of Brooklyn. It would also create a program to help inmates register to vote.

Republican Assemblyman Steve Hawley tells The Batavian the proposal is insulting to law-abiding citizens.

But the Senate Democratic spokesman is downplaying the possibility the bill will pass.

Maine and Vermont currently allow inmates to vote.
