Authorities say it appears the railroad crossing gates were working when a car was hit by a CSX freight train on the tracks in Fairport.
It happened on Main Street yesterday afternoon.
Fairport police say the driver, Michael Andraszek of Perinton, was taken to the hospital in stable condition and is expected to survive.
He reportedly told police he hit the gas, instead of the brake, when the gates were coming down.
CSX police, Fairport police and the sheriff's office are investigating the crash.
