RCSD Proposes Downsizing School Board

A member of the Rochester school board is proposing changes she says could prevent oversight lapses.

Natalie Sheppard wants to downsize the board to five members and make the positions full-time.

She says current members can't stay focused on improving the schools while they also have outside jobs. But her proposal will likely face stiff opposition.

She also says the district's Chief Financial Officer should report monthly to the City Council.

School Superintendent Terry Dade is still looking for cuts to expenses that led to $30 million in overspending in the last fiscal year.

He will present his plan November 12th.
