Sex Abuse Allegations Filed Against Former Brighton School Teacher

A lawsuit filed under the New York Child Victims Act accuses a former Brighton school teacher and gymnastics coaches of sexually abusing two women repeatedly over a course of several years.

The suit was filed under the new law allowing sex abuse survivors a year to file lawsuits against alleged abusers, regardless of the statute of limitations.

The suit alleges former teacher Duncan Ververs began abusing the women in 1971, when they were in the seventh and ninth grades. The suit says the abuse lasted through the 1975-76 school year.

Ververs is accused of abusing the young women in locations including hotel rooms when they traveled to gymnastics competitions. One survivor still lives in Rochester, while the other now lives in Florida.
