Governor Cuomo is reportedly weighing in on the Rochester City School District and the challenges is it facing...saying the city needs to stop pointing fingers and take authority and responsibility to fix the district's financial problems.
Cuomo says the city has the authority to address the district's $30 million overspending problem because city council approves the school district budget. He says the city should be able to put conditions on that approval.
Mayor Lovely Warren released a statement saying in part that she appreciate the governor's comments.....but she adds that the courts have stated that education governance lies solely with the State of New York.
She says quote "I believe it is time to put our words into action and stand ready to partner with that the state, parents and teachers to deliver meaningful change for our children."
