Issues Resolved In Seneca Versus State Thruway Dispute, Work Begins

Work will begin today to fix up the rundown stretch of the New York State Thruway that crosses the Seneca Indian Nation west of Buffalo.

The three-mile stretch has gone without maintenance for five years because of a dispute between the Senecas and the state.

The Thruway Authority says those issues have been resolved and the work between the Eden-Angola and Silver Creek exits will be done as quickly as possible.

The authority says work crews will first stabilize the roadway for the coming winter, replace deteriorated concrete and renew the lane striping. The worst sections will be milled and repaved.

The work is expected to take eight to ten weeks, weather permitting. Lane closures and delays can be expected between those two exits.
