Sentencing Set For Today In Sippel Trial

Sentencing is set for today for Michael Sippel, the man convicted of using excessive force last year while working as a Rochester police officer.

He was found guilty in a bench trial of a misdemeanor assault charge for the beating of Christopher Pate.

Sippel and his partner believed, incorrectly, that Pate was the man wanted for a burglary when they tried to detain him.

Pate suffered broken bones in his face and is suing Sippel and the city.

Sippel was fired by the Rochester Police Department and claims in a lawsuit he was defamed by city officials, and the Reverend Lewis Stewart.
