A new state law is now in effect extending the waiting period on background checks for gun purchases.
The new waiting period goes from 3 days to 30 days.
Governor Cuomo says this new law will save lives. He said it a statement that NY has taken action and has put forth some of the strongest gun laws in the nation.
He called on the federal government to act and pass universal background checks.
